Our final day demotion from the Nigerian Professional Football League (NPFL), cadre was very painful. More painful was the way and manners it happened. We had to wait for the result of an earlier disrupted tie between Gombe United FC and Wikki Tourists before our final status could be confirmed.
Alas, we were dropped despite having 50 points (which we had thought should be enough to sustain us in the elite league), and finished 17th position on the log. (see table).
By and large, we have to move on, hence, our urgent decision to reorganize and reposition the club for the new challenges ahead.
No doubt, the second tier stage of the league in which we found ourselves would be more tasking. For this, we appraised the entire team and one of the final outcome was the imminent reshuffling of the technical crew.
The club’s Technical Adviser, Fatai Amoo was affected in the shake up and his exit paved the way for his assistant, Edith Agoye. The emergence of Agoye with the leadership mantle was informed by the need for continuity in the team.
Head Coach, Edith Olumide Agoye as a former player of the club before traveling abroad for his coaching certificate, knows the philosophy of the team and having served as assistant to three past coaches made him suitable for the job.
[m He had since resumed work with the mandate of returning the team to the elite division.
However, the head coach is not working alone, he has Kabiru Alausa, Yinka Popoola, a new assistant upgraded from the U15 team and Lati Yussuf , the goalkeeper coach.
The reorganization did not stop with the coaches, some of the players too were placed on transfer having been surplus to requirements while the retained ones are currently being harmonized with the new prospective players to appear in the colours of the club when the Nigerian National League, (NNL), begins in March, 2018.
The process of recruitment started on the 3rd November, 2017 with numerous players turning up for the exercise but after so many stages of screening and series of turn up matches (including the invitational tourney in Lagos, the new formidable team is evolving.
Right now, the registration of the players for the new season is on going before we proceed to close camping outside our base in readiness for the new challenge at the NNL.
We are working hard to turn around our fortunes for good and we would need all the support we could muster to excel.
